Wednesday’s Wanderings…

Hi everyone,

I think I like the sound of “Wednesday’s wanderings” so it might just be a regular feature? Well, I still have to work up to being regular anything…but that is another story. πŸ˜‰

However, I am really thinking about it and in those thoughts, I remembered that I have some great Star blocks that I designed and wrote instructions for, so I was thinking that we can have another monthly feature, like Lucy Goosey was? The question is would you like that? And which one would you prefer – classic pieced stars or paper-pieced stars? Or a bit of both?

Let me know and I can start!

Now for the wanderings…If you are a person that likes new patterns to try and the social aspect of this passion of ours (quilting) – here isΒ  a big, looking-like-fun blog hop and party organized by Moda (fabric manufacturer), called Moda Friendship Quilt Along . It starts next week and looks like lots of fun!

Now for some interesting quilting lingo – have you ever heard of Low Volume sewing? It would be NO for me! ‘Till now that is – apparently it is very much IN now and it has to do a lot with this Modern Quilting movement that we talked about recently. So hop on to Faith’s blog, Fresh Lemons Quilts to see what this is all about… Yeah, I would be with Faith – I am definitely more attracted to strong, saturated colors, but then – when I see something made from these so called “low volume” prints – I like it! How about you? Do you tend to be more “high volume” or “low volume” when it comes to fabrics and quilts?

Speaking of color – I think I already mentioned some time ago places on the web where you can turn your favorite, inspiring photo into a palette of colors coming from it – I just love, love, LOVE that! So here is another one to try, called simply Palette Builder . One click to upload the image and one click to save it – simple! Boy can one have fun there…Here are few of mine: some summer colors to warm-up your day…

Or this, wintery one to celebrate the present season:??????????????????????????????? IMG_3952_palette

Or how about a glorious sunset (I have to admit, I am often obsessed with them…)IMG_0605 IMG_0605_palette

Each one would make an amazing set of colors for a quilt, don’t you think? One day, I will do this – go from a photo to a completed quilt! πŸ™‚

For this next little find, I didn’t have to wonder far – it was in my email inbox and then it reminded me to ask – are you a member of American Quilter’s Society? I hope so! I have been for years and I have to say that their quarterly magazine, American Quilter became one really fantastic publication (just that is worth the membership!) So if you are, here is a good “little” giveaway you can sign up for (hey, you never know – one can dream!) and if you are not, think about doing it! (just by becoming a member you will be entered in that dream giveaway). Another great thing is signing-up for their email newsletter that always has great news, new book reviews, free patterns and more.

Now having said that, I can’t miss to mention the other main organization – National Quilting Association that I also love and belong to. So if you don’t yet, check it out! Yes, their quarterly magazine is really good and getting better every time! Guilds can have their chapters in NQA and maybe that is something we can consider for our Guild? There are numerous benefits of being a chapter member, so again – what do you think?

OK, time to end today’s wanderings, but not before I leave you with a sweet treat – again in my inbox I found this good recipe for amazing chocolate frosting – courtesy of our friends from Quilter’s Corner in Ithaca, NY. I just might try that very, very soon…

Have a fabulous Wednesday and may your every day be sweet and full of love like Valentine’s Day,

Marija
